Wassily Kandinsky was celebrated throughout the 20th century and still is today for his contributions to expressionism and abstract art. As a teacher at the famed Bauhaus School of Art for 11 years, his most prominent notoriety was his influence on the art society in their understanding of abstract art in the early 1900's. Kandinsky's Blue Rider Period produced large, expressive abstract pieces, inspired through music and this gave way to the abstract art movement. This captivating poster of Kandinsky's solo exhibition in 1912, Berlin and works wonderfully in vintage and modern influenced interiors.

The Artist

WASSILY KANDINSKY

WASSILY KANDINSKY

Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky (1866 - 1944) was a Russian painter and art theorist and is credited as the pioneer of abstract art.  After successful avant-garde exhibitions early in his career, Kandinsky founded the influential Munich group Der Blaue Reiter (“The Blue Rider”; 1911–14) and began solely focused on abstract painting. His forms evolved from fluid and organic to geometric and finally, to pictographic.

His influence on 20th-century art was so profound, Kandinsky's art is still celebrated around the world and in popular culture today.
