Katsushika Hokusai created the iconic Kirifuri Waterfall on woodblock and ink on paper in 1832. This art print has vivid imagery showcasing strong white and blue vertical lines pouring down from the top of the waterfall, dividing and spreading wider at the bottom of the fall like the roots of a tree. Three travellers in front of the waterfall look up, mesmerised by the natural beauty and scale of the surging water, above them are two more travellers looking down at the scene from a higher point on the hill. Hokusai is famous for his well balanced composition and colour palette and Kirifuri Waterfall is an impressive example of this. Hokusai carefully plays with warm and cool colours, creating contrasts between water, rock and earth in this art print. Kirifuri Waterfall makes for a captivating addition to both contemporary and vintage interior decors.

Once your art prints are framed, they will typically be shipped within 24hrs.

Unframed Art Prints

All unframed art prints are shipped within 24hrs to 48hrs after your order has been placed.

If your order is placed after midday Friday, your order will be shipped on the following Monday.

General

All orders receive free tracking and we will update you via email or text message during each stage of the shipping process.

Shipping delivery times are between 2 - 4 days and if you live rurally you will need to add an additional 1 - 2 days.

The Artist

KATSUSHIKA HOKUSAI

Katsushika Hokusai (1760 - 1849) was the most celebrated Japanese artist of the Edo period.

Born in Tokyo, Hokusai is best known as author of the woodblock print series Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji which includes the internationally iconic print, The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Hokusai had a long career, but he produced most of his important work after the age of 60. Hokusai had achievements in various fields as an artist. He made designs for book illustrations and woodblock prints, sketches and painted for over 70 years. His influences stretched across the globe to his western contemporaries in nineteenth-century Europe with Japonism, which started with a craze for collecting Japanese art. Hokusai influenced Art Nouveau or Jugendsil in Germany and the larger Impressionism movement with themes echoing of his work in Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir's art.

In the 1985 Encyclopaedia Britannica, Richard Lane characterises Hokusai as "since the later 19th century having impressed Western artists, critics and art lovers alike, more, possibly, than any other single Asian artist"
